As I mentioned yesterday, there was a mysterious and unexplained accident that occurred to my memory card that basically wiped out all of the great photos I took of several projects I did over the weekend.I was really disappointed. During the winter months, I can’t usually get home early enough to see daylight, so my best opportunity for good shots is on a weekend.

So, faced with going an entire week with nothing to show for my work, I thought to myself: what’s the next best thing to quality? Quantity?

My fall mantel is simple – a handmade berry and grapevine wreath, the crate I bought in Stone Mountain after the Country Living Fair, and painted dollar store pumpkins.

It’s not complicated, but I think it suits my very simple mantel quite well. And it’s a lot better than no decorations at all. Originally, I made the wreath with the intention of hanging it on the front door (that orange was really going to pop against the blue!), but the berries were too fragile to withstand the wind. Before it became a project fail, I popped it into its new spot so I could enjoy it just a little more.

There you have it. By my count, I think I might actually have more pictures in this post than objects on the mantel. How about you, any photo pas lately? How are your own Thanksgiving mantels coming along? I’d love to see them, so feel free to link up in the comments!

  1. You're funny.

I think the pictures you have here are great.

You know, we have a lot in common now- I just bought my first place–although its a condo, not a single family home. It's similarly outdated and I am taking on updating it myself!

  2. Best of luck, Allison! While some days will be harder than others, you will still love every minute. Be sure to send me photos of your before and afters if you would like to be featured!

  3. I love the country feel of your mantle! The crate really works :) I also love your fireplace… The stone looks great; I hope you guys decide to keep it as you remodel.
