Remove old shower tile and green board/drywall

It's easier to take off in large chunks don't get overzealous with the hammer.

Replace with backer board

Make sure to use cement board

Waterproof the "wet area"

Use a waterproofing product like Redgard.  It will go on like paint and dry like caulk.  Use it with good ventilation!

Install the tile

Start at the tub and work your way up.  Be sure to use a level!  Use a white colored thinset so it doesn't affect the color of your grout later.

Grout and seal

Apply the grout color of your choice and seal.  Sealing is optional, but will protect the grout against staining.
