HOW TO MAKE "FLOATING U" WALL SHELVES

I made these U-shaped "floating' shelves in my half bath, and I'll show you how to make 'em!

SUPPLIES

1 - 1x6x8ft 1 - 1x2x8ft 1 - 1/2" Square dowel wall anchors wood fillers paint

TOOLS

Miter saw Orbital sander sandpaper Drill Measuring tape nail gun drill bits clamps pencil

CUT BOTTOM, SIDES, AND BACK

Make the shelves longer or shorter to fit your space, but the bottom, back piece, and optional front lip should all be the same length.

GLUE AND CLAMP

Add back first, then sides; add one side then back then so on, join together with wood glue.

Add a front lip to keep items from slipping off.

ADD FRONT LIP (OPTIONAL)

To look super seamless, I filled everything with wood filler and sanded in prep for paint.

FILL ALL KNOTS & SEAMS WITH WOOD FILLER

I painted the shelves with my paint sprayer.

PAINT

Mark several lines on the wall and then drill through the shelf.

HANG

And done!  They are the perfect shelves for above our toilet!
