NO SEW FAUX ROMAN SHADE

Ugly Duckling House

I watched a few tutorials and my lazier side won out when I saw that some just tacked the fabric together to give it the look of a Roman shade.  If you don't need it to function...keep watching!

YOU ONLY NEED  ONE YARD OF FABRIC!

1

If you aren't using striped fabric, you're golden!  Stripes of this width were hard to find, but I found some at IKEA.

PRESSING THE HEMS

2

When using heavy upholstery fabric, be careful of the heat setting on your iron to avoid scorch marks

MEASURE AND CUT

3

Use Heat n' Bond hem tape to make the curtain no sew.  The tape is 3/4" wide, so measure the fabric an extra 3/4" on the sides and bottom

MAKE THE HEMS

4

Fold the fabric over and press with a hot iron to get your crease.  Slip the hem tape into the crease and press again.  The strip melts the two sides together and BOOM!  You've got a clean edge.

CREATE WINDOW MOUNT

5

Wrap the top around a 1X2 furring strip and mount inside the window frame. Pre drill the furring strip to avoid splitting.  Attach it directly to the window frame.

GATHER AND PIN

6

Gather and pin to make the folds that create the Roman shade look.  I didn't do it before hanging it because I didn't want the pins to shift.

Your faux Roman shade is done!
