Study-O Storage Options

I’ve now saved myself a little bit of money to buy the storage unit (or the wood to build one) for the study-o.
I could go with the traditional Expedit bookshelf option from IKEA. I have even found these plans from ana-white.com (turned vertically, of course), so I know I can make them on my own (and have an excuse to use my favorite tool again).
I could go with the new (trendy) option of the Vittsjo shelves from IKEA. They sort of remind me of old drying racks from pottery class. I’ve been seeing tons of options lately for what these can turn into – brightly painted, the glass shelves replaced with wood, or even a little rub-n-buff.
Or, I could go funky (and you probably know I’m leaning toward this one the most): old ladders as shelves.
from here
Which would you choose?  The traditional look, the trendy look, or the funky look?

  1. Hmm… I kind of love the funky look! I would love to see you pull it off!

  2. I like the second one. The room doesn't look huge and it seems lie it would take up less space visually!

  3. I love the ladders! I'm now mentally moving furniture in my house to put up shelving like that.

  4. My vote is the Vittsjo. Very simple – that way you can punch things up with accessories. That funky one is a bit overwelming – to the point you don't really see anything on it! And every one and their grandmother has the first ones! I'll be anxious to see what you choose!

  5. I simply adore the ladders…..it makes me wish my last name started with a W….or an M…..hmmmm….maybe there should be a company that makes alphabet letter bookshelves!!! Have fun with whatever option you choose. As always, it will be brilliant!

  6. Kinda in love with the ladders!!! I wish I could do that but I see Hurricane Tenley using them to master her climbing skills.

  7. If you're trying to make an impact then choose the ladders, but they don't seem to offer as much storage space and long term I think you might tire of them. The second style seems to allow for more adapting to your style.

  8. I think you will like the ladder best; however, you've said that you're not planning to live there permanently. Thus, I'd say a neutral pick would be best. For that matter, the cheapest neutral option that will show well.
