I’m a single homeowner with no children (someday I think I’d like to have three boys who love power tools as much as I do – just like Kelly’s adorable little one). So it’s no surprise that I don’t shop in children’s stores – until now.

Imagine my surprise to find out (by happy accident on Pinterest) that many of today’s children stores are carrying their own chic lines of interior decor. There are even a few things I want myself! While adult stores will sometimes carry a more subdued palette, children’s stores have a ton of colorful options perfect for modern or eclectic design aesthetics (and let’s face it; all homes need a touch of whimsy here and there). Check out a few of these great finds and see for yourself:

Nerdy love overload.  The rug is just like what you’d find in a West Elm catalog, only with a punch of pink. Those pillows are simply awesome (I am adding both the blueprint and robot pillows to my wish list). And both the clock and hex lamp could just as easily come from Anthropologie as from this kids store. But I think my favorite is the balloon animal bookend – I would totally lie and say I picked it up in a modern art museum as an homage to Jeff Koons sculptures.

Okay, so I mentioned that kid stores have color, and here I am going monochromatic. But even these black and white options are a little fun, aren’t they? If I didn’t already have a shower curtain waiting to be hung in the guest bath, that polka dot shower curtain would be in the Ugg-Duck in a heartbeat.

I absolutely love this rug from PB Kids. I (clearly) have a thing for blueprints and this rug would tie right in. As for the industrial light fixture pictured, I’ve seen it before on Katie’s blog (she found them at the PB Kids outlet for a steal and used them in her kitchen). And how about that shark art? Kind of reminds me of Kim’s pallet shark but with a little more dimension.

Seventeen great finds from a children’s store, and that’s not all I found. If you are a single homeowner like me, were you surprised like I was? If you’re a parent – what gives? Why do you gotta hold out on a girl like that? :)

  1. Okay, so, apparently, I need to start shopping at kids' stors… I don't think there's a single item up there that I DON'T like =) Thanks for sharing!

  2. absolutely LOVE all of the picks! Such fun stuff and totally NOT just for kids! Makes me want to go shop in the kiddo section!

  3. Of course, I stalk Pottery Barn AND Pottery Barn Kids. It's becoming “fashionable” to make your kids' rooms both fun and more grown-up in style!

  4. Weston wants to say thanks for the link love! I think it's going to his head.

But seriously, that balloon animal bookend WILL BE MINE. :) Great roundup!
