I’ve finally done it… I’ve bought the paint for the kitchen cabinets. This is finally and actually going to happen, and soon. And yes, I’m doing this while I still have unfinished projects upstairs.
If you’re counting at home, I think this is unfinished project number six. But I really, really want this.
Because despite all of the things I’ve done in this house, I somehow feel like I haven’t done much of anything. I’ve gone from project to project, but never tackled just one room so that I can get to a true before and after. And I need that after a year of home remodeling. I want to see an entire room transformation and look back on my old house tour photos and think, “Wow, I can’t believe it used to look like that!”
And, despite declaring that we are finished with the floors, this is the last room in the house where I need to complete the shoe molding. We chose not to bother until after the paint went in. Speaking of, I’m thinking about a potential snafu. Should I paint the kick plates to match the cabinet paint, or leave them black? And if I leave them black, what color should the shoe molding be (it’s white everywhere else in the house to match the baseboards)? Has anyone else had this dilemma?
Woohoo! I've been considering this too so I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Our kickplates are still unplainted wood. It's nice that they kinda dissapear down there, but really they're only still that color because I've been lazy and haven't gotten around to first repairing (the perils of ripping out carpet that was glued down onto 40-year old cabinet kickplates), and then painting them to match the rest of the kitchen.
One day! lol

I'll be following too since I'll be doing this to my cabinets soon. I'd try leaving them black since your stove and dishwasher are that color, you can always go back and paint them white, just a thought.

Make 'em black! It'll be far more noticeable having them be white, particularly when the kickplates are already black (leave 'em black!). It's a nice way to tie together the black appliances.
You rock, btw! Do not discourage over unfinished projects. Time, energy, and money go into renovation, and there are many times when one of those three force you to devote time to other projects. You'll eventually finish (if you stick to it :p) and it'll be amazing.
Thank you so much for the words of encouragement! Even on bad days, comments like that pick me up!
Leave them black! I'm painting my white cabinets' kick plates black in the upstairs bathroom because the white looks awful. The black will make them disappear and I may add matching white furniture legs to the front.
