This year, Thanksgiving was held at my mom’s house. So, since I wasn’t the one making dinner, I whipped up something a little more my style:  a last-minute dollar store table centerpiece.

Take an out-of-focus basket.

Add a dollar store candle holder wrapped with twine (I hot glued the twine and wrapped it around about 20 times).

Add a ribbon to the twine candle holder and fall berry stems to complete the centerpiece.

Cost breakdown:

  • $0 basket (taken from the house)
  • $1 candle holder
  • $0 twine and hot glue (both already owned but also from the dollar store)
  • $4 for 4 berry stems at $1 each (from Walmart)

Total:  $5

These pumpkins were found on clearance for a $1 for an entire box at Walmart. Adding a pumpkin to each plate completes the look.

So, as you can see, last minute doesn’t have to mean bare or expensive. Plus, each item can be separated out and reused elsewhere for either Christmas (a little spray paint on those beads will make it much more festive) or in next year’s Thanksgiving decor. Not to shabby, eh?
