Busy Girl, Busier Wallet

I seem to take a long time to finally pull the trigger on buying big-ticket items, but when I do, it’s usually done in a flourish (kind of like last fall when I bought a non-cliner, dining room set, did some IKEA shopping, and purchased some extra chairs for the living room in less than a month). This past week, not only did I purchase two vanities for the primary and guest baths, but I also saw this lovely laptop table at World Market:

I could not help myself from buying it. The warm color of the wood combined with the gunmetal of the legs turned me into a shopping zombie (“Must. Buy. Must! Buy!”). I went to the store looking for something and hadn’t found it yet when I stumbled onto this table, so I wound up lugging a table all over the place because I didn’t want to let it out of my sight. It was a floor model and had a few minor dings and scratches, but the wood was made to look old already, so the little scratches only gave the stand more character. For me, eighty bucks is a little steep for a laptop table, but I couldn’t convince myself not to get it.

The best design advice I think I’ve ever heard (and I try to keep true to it every day) is to just decorate my home with the things I love. And not only is this little laptop stand a functional improvement over what I used for way too long (and am embarrassed to admit using), but it makes my heart skip every time I look at its simplistic industrial chic-ness. I’m actually in love with an inanimate object, and for once, it’s not shoes!

I haven’t quite figured out where I’ll regularly put this table (I already have a nightstand on both sides of the bed and two tables next to each other just looks silly to me), but I cannot deny that it is a welcome addition to the home. My purchasing frenzy isn’t over yet (and I’ll post more about it next week as I start placing them around the house), but I’m curious as to see what you think. Have you had any recent splurges yourself? Did you have any regrets? Spill.
