Everyone who’s going to post a lot of updates this week, take one step forward. Not so fast, Sarah.

I had good intentions this week to get out a number of updates with some design dilemmas and additional progress made in the dining room and laundry room (Giant canvas purchased? Check. New light fixture installation? Check!), but instead, my site decided to lock me out for the better part of the week. Which sucked, and I was scrambling for a little while for what to post after everything had been sorted out (after all, I also wanted to post some personal stuff this week too). But then I also went into purge mode on my living room and made a huge pile of things for donating, and then lost my car keys, and then also lined up a bunch of contractors to come over to give me quotes on the cost of all of the exterior work that still isn’t done yet….

The Great Purge continued yesterday. Cannot find my keys today. Proving once again that in this house, cleaning is a punishable offense.

….and I just shrugged and said, eff it.

It always seems to hold true that, whenever there’s a lot of activity going on around the house, there’s a bit of a lull with other things. And the thing to remember about all of that is that it’s okay to just step back, grab another cup of coffee, take my Valentine (Charlie) to the park to play with her furry friends, and seek a little fresh air.

I hope you all have a wonderful week, friends. And Happy (early) Valentine’s Day.

  1. You have a way with words…and I love it. :) Hey, what is up with contractor guys not following through? I am about running out of options. I had to call the last guy after two weeks of no bid (came well recommended) and now it has been two plus weeks since he had said he would get it to me! I have to call him today–but do I want someone to work for me that doesn’t follow through?? I end up wasting my time going through the list for each one. Ugh!

    1. I had a VERY similar thing happen to me just this past Monday. The first appointment I made was with a super friendly dude who gave me his name & number and made an appointment (a window of course — lucky I work from home!). Then he was a no-show, but some other company called and was willing to come by, so it worked out fine. Then the first dude followed up today via email like “hey, let me know when I can come by” and I had to call him out that he never showed. He then implied that he’d never called or heard from me before, and I smacked him with a time and date stamp from his exact number. Asshat. Like there’s ANY chance I’d go with a contractor who doesn’t bother to show up or acknowledge he’d even been a flake.

  2. I lost my keys this past weekend for a good day and a half. It drove me nuts. I thought I had misplaced them in the middle of the night when I ran out to the car. (I had to raid my snack stash when I woke up to take care of the baby.)

It turns out, I had already grabbed them and put them in the stroller the next morning when we went for a stroller walk. I was just too tired to remember. * face palm*

    1. Yeah, I found mine in the plastic bag I’d used to carry stuff inside from the car (my hands were full so I guess I put them in there so I wouldn’t drop it). Funny that I DID think of that shortly after looking all over the house, but I didn’t actually check for the possibility until after I’d grabbed the backup key & ran errands.

I’m thinking of picking up one of those fobs that connects to my phone for next time (TrakR is a brand I’ve heard of).

  3. My son who is always losing his car keys, puts his brain in reverse and thinks backwards! Works every time.

  4. I absolutely love your way with words! I’ve found the lack of accountability and general customer service from various types of companies on a steady decline. I wish you luck!

    1. Thank you! Other than that one encounter, I’ve had some surprisingly pleasant results this week. I’ll have more details next week and fill everyone in (provided that my site doesn’t lock me out again!).
