Are 4 rocks covered with chalkboard paint worth $16?

Pottery Barn seems to think so. Come to think of it, I’ve got some other equally clever “vase filler” items for sale…

“Bookworm Ball” vase filler; available in sets of 4… $18

Have you ever tried to fill a vase with only 4 items? That means I have to buy multiple sets, and that could get quite costly. But, since I’m pretty sure all I need are rocks (free), primer (already owned), and chalkboard paint (already owned), I think I could do this for around $0.

Something this simple doesn’t really require a tutorial… but then again, the geniuses at Kellogg’s think Pop-Tarts need instructions, so here you go:

1. Find rocks.

2. Prime rocks. Let dry.

3. Paint rocks with chalkboard paint. Let dry.

4. Write messages on rocks with chalk.

5. Fill vase with rocks.

6. Just as I always do whenever I encounter a brain teaser: have a beer. An accomplishment as distinguished as this one means you can afford to lose a brain cell or two… after all, that’s two more than the guy who actually bought four rocks for $16.
