o see my post, go on over to her blog and then have a look around!

Hello to everyone here at The Ugly Duckling House!
I’m Michelle, a 25-year-old military brat chronicling my first time home owner DIY adventures alongside my southern sweetheart over at Dream Home DIY.

Our journey began this past summer, June 2010 to be precise, with the purchase of this darling 2-story Colonial.
And our little starter house has no idea what’s in store for it!
You see, our intention is to transform her into the forever home of our dreams.
A place we will grow old together in, filling its every fiber with a lifetime of memories.

My father was stationed across the states during his 25-year career.
As a child in a Navy family, we moved from Hawaii to California, to Virginia, to Hawaii…
Finally settling once again in Virginia.

Needless to say, my childhood memories are scattered across this fine country.
And while the nomad spirit still resides inside of me, it feels “right” to set down deep roots in a community as well. And where better to do so than in a charming Southern community?

Where people wave at strangers on the street, and a win from the home town high school football team sets the mood for the entire Fall season.

Besides, I knew that one day I wanted a place for my future children to return to and smile that sweet grin if remembrance at all the hidden memories those four walls contained.

With that, we hit the ground running!
Sure our grand ideas may take years to accomplish, but when is a house really ever complete, right?

At the moment we are knee-deep in a living room remodel, creating separate dining room and living spaces (including an in-progress archway)….
…A front porch revamp with no shortage of new paint and stain…

And more DIY projects than you can shake a stick at!
On the horizon?

A fabulous kitchen remodel, primary bedroom and bath reconfiguration, new decks, landscaping, painting, furniture construction and re-facing, future additions, garages and so much more!!
Day by day.
Project by project.
Remodel by remodel.
Two novice DIYers are well on our way of achieving the most important goal of all.

“Turn Our Starter Home Into Our Dream Home…One DIY at a Time”

Wont you join us on the adventure?
Thanks Michelle for the swap! Be sure to go over to her blog to see what she’s up to next.

  1. I found your blog via your swap today, and I am jealous of your projects. I would looooove to buy a house and be able to do what I want to it. Instead I am renting and doing what I can.
It looks like you're doing a good job so far!
