Some Recovery… And Then

I started feeling a good bit better last night, so I headed for my usual DIY stomping grounds to pick up my choice for the bathroom cabinet painting project I am planning for this weekend. I’d already done some online searching and found that Lowe’s did not yet carry the new Rustoleum product, so despite it being closer to my house, I drove right past and headed for Home Depot.

My particular HD location has a wonderful specialty paints department and I quickly began looking for the kit. You know, in, out, get on with the evening’s events. But then, I saw it… or rather, I didn’t see it. No specialty cabinet paint. No kit! It was supposed to be there, but it wasn’t! Oh no, I thought, would I have to special order and postpone my painting plans?

If you’re anything like me, you know that this conversation went through my head in less than five seconds. Which is long enough to work my brow into a furrow (love that phrase, “furrowed brow”) and leave me slightly panicked at the domino effect of not finding the paint as I had hoped (or as Scott would say, “if you give a mouse a cookie…”). Thankfully, that’s also how long (or, short?) it takes for Home Depot reps to recognize a confused face and offer to help. With a knowing smile, the paint guy knew exactly what I was after, and led me to the front of the paint department where the new, shiny product was on display. I’d walked right past it. Oops…and phew.

Then came the agonizing thirty minutes of me, undecided, standing in the painting department wondering if I was making the right choice. Sure, it was only $79, but again if you’re anything like me, you know just how far $79 could have stretched if it turns out being the wrong choice. Does anyone else have paint performance anxiety? Last-minute trigger-itis?

Anyhoo, after I finally made my choice, I found decision-making a little easier and brought home a couple of extra items I wanted to try out. Stay tuned for the bathroom reveal for those. I got home, put my painting resources in the garage, and headed off to bed.

Then, this morning, as I was about to head off to work, my neighbor informed me that he though my tire was flat. Damn. Good to have kind neighbors, but no one likes bad news. Just when you think you’re going to have a big renovation weekend (and have spent the money to do it), something like this comes along and makes you not only late, but a little emptier in the pocket than you expected. Thank goodness for AAA. Two hours later, I was on my way to the office with a spare tire.

So tonight, instead of prepping my bathroom areas for the big paint to-do, I’ll be at the tire shop either getting my flat fixed or buying a new tire. It will unfortunately set me back a little in both time and expense, but it’s just one of those things, right?

I wish I had some pics to share of what else I worked on just before bed last night, but in this morning’s frenzy I forgot to put the memory card in my purse. The only hint I can give you for now is it makes the house reflect the cheerful and sunny mood I’ve been striving for ever since the temps creeped up above 45 degrees. I promise I’ll play catch-up tomorrow!

  1. Yikes. A flat tire is never fun! At least you found the paint you wanted, though. ;)
