In addition to the icicle lights along the roofline, the outside of the house got a few more decorations to take our evening display from “eh” to “ooh!”

These pre-lit outdoor trees were a gift from my sister. She loves Christmas decorating like 14-year-olds heart Justin Bieber. They were really easy to put together, and the wires used to plug them in were longer than expected, making it much easier to hide under the welcome mat.

Simple, but the welcome mat is actually thicker than one would expect a dollar store welcome mat to be. Actually, it was an after Christmas purchase last year – a whopping fifty cents.

The front porch got a little more dressed up by stringing large shatterproof plastic ornaments. The ones closer to the top were hung by the old plant hooks our previous owner left behind. The longer ones were strung using fishing line tied into a loop, then stapled into place.
Hello there! I guess you can’t hide from a reflective ball.

Finally, we hung a large lit wreath from the second story window. At first, we weren’t sure how we were going to get it to stay in place. A good gust of wind could turn our well-intentioned Christmas wreath into a holiday missile.

So, we took a trip to the hardware store and spoke to one of the reps. I happened to take my camera along, so the pictures I’d already taken of the house came in handy when explaining where we wanted to put it.

Using the reps recommendations, I picked up a few sturdy suction cups made for large wreaths.

With two hooks holding the wreath in place, my fears of falling Christmas debris have subsided.
In one afternoon, we’ve completed our outdoor holiday decorations. Just in time too – the temperature immediately dropped the following day. Glad we could spend it inside and enjoy the glow from a safe, warm distance. Be sure to check in tomorrow, where I’ll reveal the nighttime end result!
