It’s been a while since I’ve shared more than a cameo from Charlie in a single post. But while I was in Arizona figuring out how to be patient with unfamiliar tools, Charlie was away at doggie boarding. She doesn’t have to stay at another person’s home very often, so I get a little picky about the type of care she gets if I’m away. I go for places that allow the dogs to play with one another (and will fork over the extra dough to find a place that doesn’t keep her in a crate all day). The best part of sending her to a place that lets her play all day long with five (or more) other dogs?

The extra days I get on the back end for her to recover from all that play time. For me, it’s money well spent!

How about you? Are you picky about your dog’s care when you head out of town?

P.S. Photos were taken at my parents’ house, thus the unfamiliar furniture (and the fact that she gets to lay on it). Atlanta area folks – if you want a recommendation, send me an email. I am really happy with where she stayed!

  1. Doo always stays at Dogma – one of the best in the region for uncrated dog care, playtime, activities and the link. Even award winning groomers on site. And they have a place for Kitty too – with a cat tree :) I LOVE it when Doo plays so hard he has to sleep the day away – just like Charlie!

    1. I am lucky in that my parents, my brother and boyfriend’s parents live close enough that they take care of our two dogs. Eventhough they all take care of them like they are their own, they still get extensive notes with how much food which food (one of our dogs is highly allergic) and any current meds. I just don’t trust anyone else!

  2. Birdie goes to a crate-free daycare too! It’s the only way to go. She comes home sooo tired (and I think it’s good for her to shed a few pounds too!) it’s awesome. I love “daycare dog” that isn’t running after squirrels and barking all day!

  3. I am so so so picky about where Dutch stays, mainly because he has crate issues and can’t be in one. So we aim for parents when we go out of town!

  4. Our wonderful friend comes by to take care of my Lucy when we happen to go somewhere without her. Next to her pack (us), he is her absolute favorite person! I mean come on…he brings treats, lets her ride in the front seat, and has two crazy dogs of his own for her to play with! He basically picks her up in the morning, wines & dines her all day, then brings her back to her yard for me-mees every night. Hey, someone’s gotta watch the place!

  5. My sweet Rex is lucky enough to get to stay at home. I usually have my mom or my ex-boyfriend (weird, I know!) come stay with him so his isn’t displaced. We are very fortunate!

  6. VERY picky about the care I give my pets. Mine (2 dogs and 1 cat) are at an age where they are less interested in playtime and more in comfort and security, so I have a pet sitter visit 3x a day to walk/play with them so they can stay in their comfort zone. Of course, finding someone I trust 100% to do this IS a challenge, but I would do anything for them.
