New YEAR, new 12 patterns, and the first one is now ready to share with you today: this wintery scene of snowy trees and cute little cardinals. Take a look at the first pattern of 2023 and scroll below to see the other 11 coming your way as this year’s monthly releases.
Winter is such a lovely time of year; as much as I don’t love the cold itself, it’s perfect for cozying up with a winter craft like cross stitch (I’ll gladly look out on a dusting of snow from my window, which I suppose I’ll have to get used to now that we’re moving further north!). This charming design is part of the brand new collection for the new year, and I’m glad we’re starting off with one of my larger patterns to date! (Scroll to the bottom of the post to see the rest of the new designs for 2023!)
After November and December releases being focused on mini patterns, I thought it would be fun to go BIG for January. This month’s pattern features an oval-shaped background scene of winter trees with a dusting of snow and little red cardinals perched on the branches. I think it’s perfect for anyone who wants to bring in a touch of the outdoors while still clearing the home of all of the excess decorations of the holidays. Decor between January and spring is always such a tricky thing for me. I still like a nod to the season, but I like it free of clutter, too.
Ultimately, that’s what drew me to create this as a pattern. The red cardinals add small dots of bright color but still say “winter” and set a mood. It is also one of my bigger patterns, so you can potentially set aside your craft time with a mellow pattern that allows you to sit and occupy your hands while reflecting on things to come. If you’re looking to set a daily habit goal for the new year, this is an excellent pattern to start with! Happy stitching and I hope you enjoy!

During the winter months is when I start working on the new patterns for the next year. That means over the holidays, I finished up all twelve new designs for 2023! You’ll be able to access them once per month as usual, but there’s a way you can get them early (read below!)
Last summer, I launched a new cross stitch site called NeedleSpark. I only release ONE pattern per month over here on the UDH blog, but now that my new cross stitch site has launched, I have a way to give exclusive early access and lots more. Over there, you’ll find:
- archived patterns that you can’t get over on the blog anymore (like this first fall tree pattern)
- early and new releases not available anywhere else (different color varieties of popular patterns, too)
- I add multiple new patterns each month, sometimes even whole collections (I’m releasing a month/butterfly collection in January!)
- significant savings per pattern because of the membership structure (lower than what you’d typically pay to buy them individually from my Etsy shop, especially if you join as a lifetime member)
If you’ve signed up as a UDH email subscriber, check your emails for an exclusive discount code.
